Maps and Projections

All that tinkering has made
the seas more distant,
the latitudes more indiscreet.

Scream-thorns line the throats
separating the islands;

the equatorial region
is a boundary separating
two unequal hemispheres
now flattened onto the paper.

Darkness coats the wall facing
the underside of the map.
